The galvanised and painted stage brackets use the same batten supporting element sections as their respective transoms. They are generally used on the inside of an access scaffold to widen a platform by 1, 2 or 3 battens, fill recesses within the serviced structures building line, or to allow the inside standards to clear eaves, overhangs or other obstructions.
The ends of 2-bd and 3-bd stage brackets must always be connected by tie bars to prevent opening-out of one relative to another and consequently allowing battens to fall from their supporting flanges.
The tie bars fit into slotted holes in the ends of the 2-bd and 3-bd stage brackets. The inside platforms on stage brackets must be used for man access only, with the weight of no more than 2 men (90kg each, allowance for man and handtools) to one stage bracket. If materials are to be stored on a platform, they must be placed on the main platform supported by the transoms, never on the inside battens.

The battens are made from selected soft wood with end bandings. Moment of resistance of section = 1.3kNm.
The steel stagings have the same overall dimensions of the battens. Their weights are:-
The battens and steel stagings have ample strength, when spanning their full lengths between supporting transoms to carry 3 kN/m2 platform loading (masonry or special duty loading).

Wt 9.9kg Painted (72103206)
Twin rolled steel angles back to back span between standards 1270 (4ft 2") apart and carry 5 No 228 wide timber battens or steel stagings plus toe board.
Maximum permissable imposed load in 8ft bays = 2 kN/m2 of platform area (general purspose loading).

Wt 7.7kg Painted (72103218)
Reduced length versions of the 4ft 2" transoms to span between standards 813 apart and carry 3 No 228 wide timber battens or steel stagings plus toe boards.
Maximum permissable imposed load in 8ft bays = 3 kN/m2 of platform area (masonry or special duty loading).

Wt 12.5kg Painted (72103220)
Placed over ledgers in one bay of Climastage and fixed to two standards to start a 90° return with another run. Complete with seating for 5 No 228 wide timber battens or steel stagings giving the same decking level for both scaffold runs.
Maximum permissable imposed load in 8ft bays = 3 kN/m2 of platform area (masonry or special duty loading).

Wt 9.5kg Painted (72103219)
The ladder access transom employs the same pressed steel inverted channel section as the galvanised 4ft 2" transom. The central upstand however is only long enough to retain 2 battens with the remaining 3-batten width clear to allow battens to span a full scaffold bay (a downstand plate is provided below the 3-batten area to maintain adequate strength of the transom).
The ladded access transom is used in conjunction with tie bars at both sides to a 4ft 2" transom with slotted tie bar connection holes, to provide ladder access openings surrounded by either 5 or 3 battens in a scaffold bay. Thus, for example, in an 8ft bay with one ladder access transom, two 4ft 2" tie bars, two 4ft 2" and three 8ft battens a full deck of battens is provided apart from the 2-batten wide by 3ft 6" approx long ladder access opening.

The tie bars are fabricated from 38 x 38 x 4.7 thick angles with ping ends to fit into the slotted holes in the stage brackets and intermediate stage brackets.
The tie bars are fixed with their vertical flanges on the remote side from the platform with the batten resting on the horizontal flange of the angle. The tie bars therefore fulfill the dual functions of preventing the inside battens from moving sideways and preventing differential movement of adjacent stage brackets.
